Kombo
Guide
Kombo is an experienced local guide based on Pemba Island, north-eastern Tanzania, well known for his outstanding skill in finding the island’s endemic bird species, including the Pemba Scops-Owl, Pemba White-eye, Pemba Green Pigeon, and Pemba Sunbird. Born and raised on Zanzibar, he has extensively explored the island, developing a profound understanding of its forests, wildlife, and unique ecosystems.
Growing up close to the forest nurtured Kombo’s passion for nature from an early age and sharpened his abilities as an excellent spotter and listener, particularly for birds in the forest.
In addition to Pemba, Kombo also currently guides on Unguja, Zanzibar, where he leads excursions, cultural tours, spice farm visits, and ethno-tours that introduce guests to local medicine and traditional island lifestyles.
Alongside his guiding work, Kombo serves as a Tourism Guide and Officer at Ngezi Forest Reserve, a role that further strengthens his conservation knowledge and field experience. Guests consistently describe their time with him as knowledgeable, engaging, and highly enjoyable.
Kombo holds a Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) and has completed advanced tourism training with the Zanzibar Tourism Organization (ZATO) supported by UNICEF.
