Featured Itinerary

11-Day Birding Safari Northern Tanzania

Northern Tanzania is a true birding hotspot, combining exceptional avian diversity with some of Africa’s most iconic wildlife landscapes. This 11-day birding itinerary explores a wide range of habitats, from the open plains of the Serengeti and Ndutu, the Ngorongoro Highlands, the riverine woodlands of Tarangire, the Lark Plains of Engikaret, and Arusha National Park.

  • "...The itinerary balanced our desire to see as many of the endemic species of southern Tanzania as possible with our interest in also seeing other wildlife, the magnificent national parks and mountain ranges of southern Tanzania, and our preferred logistics. The result: about 568 species of birds and 42 species of mammals seen, and we visited many scenic areas including Kitulo, Ruaha, Mikumi and Nyerere National Parks along with Mt Rungwe and the Kilombero Wetlands, Mufundi Higlands, the Uluguru, Udzungwa and Ukaguru mountains..."

  • “What a memorable trip through the Eastern Arc Mountains and national parks of Tanzania. Highly recommend for Nungunungu's customization and personal touch. Joe and his team went above and beyond to plan an itinerary based on our interests (birds, hiking, wildlife) and preferred mode of travel (less driving, more time enjoying the birds). Our guide Abdul is one of the top individual birders in all of Africa and knew the sites and special species like the back of his hand, and his enthusiasm was contagious. Our driver Kapande was a pleasure to be around. Accommodations were lovely. Too many highlights to list, from waterfalls to mountain farming villages to great wetlands and savannah.”

  • "..It was not easy to go through the many safari companies that do offer their services but decided to go with Nungunungu. Through some emailing back and forward with Joe explaining what I am after as an amateur wildlife photography not only after the Big 5 and that I settle for clean but standard comfort accommodation. An offer was made and accepted. Online payment went swift and was it D day in November with me landing in Seronera, Serengeti. My guide Joshua was waiting for me and did we spend the whole trip together. Joshua also well understood my interest in not just lions or buffels but equally happy with LBJs, mongooses and all other animals roaming on the plains of Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire..."

  • "The trip to Kitulo National Park and Mount Rungwe in sourthern Tanzania was well organised. The accomodation and food was fine and the guide, Morris Nyambo was excellent. The plant life and especially the orchids in Kitulo NP were amazing, we saw most of the birds we were looking for and the 2 days on Mt. Rungwe were good as well with fantastic views of Kipunji. The local guides there know the whereabouts of the monkey well and guided us to different groups on both days we tried."
