11-Day Birding Safari Northern Tanzania

Tour Overview

Northern Tanzania is a true birding hotspot, combining exceptional avian diversity with some of Africa’s most iconic wildlife landscapes. This 11-day birding itinerary explores a wide range of habitats, from the open plains of the Serengeti and Ndutu, the Ngorongoro Highlands, the riverine woodlands of Tarangire, the Lark Plains of Engikaret, and Arusha National Park.

This itinerary is ideal for first-time visitors to Tanzania or Africa because it balances focused birdwatching with memorable wildlife viewing. It's great for birders who want to see more than just birds on their safari.

This popular tour is most effective from late December to early April. The season is when birds migrate, including Palearctic and intra-African. It's also the time of year when wildebeest give birth, which means more predators and more plains game. Birds are in their best breeding plumage, and you have a decent chance of seeing the Big Five. The itinerary can also be customized for other periods, depending on the wildebeest migration cycle.
